Pelosi's Monstrosity Passes the House

Nancy Pelosi's 1,990 page bill passed the House yesterday. This is the same bill that the Wall Street Journal called "The Worst Bill Ever." Among other atrocious aspects of the bill are $572 billion in new taxes, over $1 trillion in new spending over the next 10 years, a complete takeover of the insurance industry, and individual mandates on insurance.

There is also a 21.5% cut in Medicare reimbursement to doctors. I personally endorse a 100% cut in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements so long as doctors and hospitals are not forced to care for these patients. But the fact is that they are forced, by law, to take care of these patients in some capacity (emergency care for example). Cutting the reimbursement is going to put pressure on what is left of private enterprise in medicine and force private practices and private hospitals to close. But maybe this is the goal to begin with.

Perhaps the best we can hope for is that the passage of this bill will infuriate enough decent people in this country. Texas' governor has said he would nullify such a bill if passed through the Senate. I would hope that other States would do the same.

If you want to lobby Congress and propose a free market alternative to health care, I recommend Campaign for Liberty's new site Operation Health Freedom.
